There I was: A girl who had grown up in a Southern Baptist church that her family helped start over 100 years ago. None of that mattered now, because I felt so alone and ashamed. I was divorced with 2 young boys, in debt over my head, and not a single penny to my name. No one had any idea the pain I had endured over the last year.
It was at that lowest point in my life when a man came a along who met me at my point of need. I told him how felt like the woman at the well. (John 4:1-30) Alone, ostracized… But he took the time to talk to me. He gently took my hand & let me know that it wasn’t the end. This man felt so familiar, like the missing piece I had been longing for. He felt like the love I had been trying to piece together my whole life. He made me feel strong & courageous; bold & proud of who I was. This man made me want to run through the street & tell everyone about him. I had the yearning to introduce him to everyone I met, so they could know how wonderful he was.
During the next few years of “wilderness & waiting” I walked with this man named Jesus. He continued to hold my hand & talk to me; Continued to embolden me & call me his own. As I prayed & cried & poured my heart out to this man, he introduced me to a another man: my husband Mike. (Psalm 34:17) Mike loved Jesus too. He had walked his own journey & Jesus had met him at his point of need. Somehow, when neither of us had the time or were really looking for anyone but Jesus, we met each other. Since day one, Mike took my hand & didn’t lead me away from the man that has held me for so long. Instead, the three of us began our journey together.
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.” Psalm 34:17
Life was hard back then. There were nights when the pain seemed like it was too much to bear. But the Bible promises that pain can’t compare to the joy that comes in the morning. And every promise from God comes true in Him…in His timing. (Proverbs 30:5) His timing is perfect; not easy.
Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in him” Proverbs 30:5
Today, if you find yourself feeling alone, desperate, or like no one in this world could possibly understand, cling to Jesus. (Psalm 119:114) I know it sounds too easy, but Jesus is more than a name. He is a living savior who rescues his children. If he rescued this cold, dead heart from the pit of despair, I promise he can rescue you. (Joel 2:32a)
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Joel 2:32a
